Counseling Services Staff

Stephen Wilson, Psy.D., L.P.C.,  Director of Counseling Services - Steve is a Licensed Professional Counselor who joined the staff of Georgia College Counseling Services in 2007. He earned a Masters of Science degree from Augusta University, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. Steve works with students experiencing a range of concerns, including ADHD, depression, anxiety and stress.  Contact Steve at 478-445-5331.

Shadisha Bennett Brodde, M.S. LPC., Counselor.- Shadisha is a Licensed Professional Counselor who started her journey with Georgia College Counseling Services in May 2017. Shadisha works on a variety of issues from setting healthy boundaries, anxiety, trauma, depression, effective communication, LGBT, and substance abuse concerns. Shadisha also likes to help students who are adjusting to their college experience and helping students who are ready to launch from the college world to the greater world. Shadisha’s counseling philosophy can be described in this way. One of Shadisha’s favorite quotes is “Not all who wander are lost”. Shadisha interprets this to mean that while we can sometimes be anxious and unsure of our path and our destination but this is not a weakness, instead it means that we are seeking our best self and that makes our journey worthwhile.  She can be contacted at 478-445-5331.

Jeff Duffey, M.D., Psychiatrist - Dr. Duffey works at Georgia College Counseling Services as a part-time consultant. His medical degree is from the Medical College of Georgia and he is board certified in psychiatry. Students can see Dr. Duffey at Georgia College Counseling Services only by referral from one of the regular therapists on staff. Due to time limitations, he cannot see students on an ongoing basis, but will assess their functioning and if indicated, provide an initial prescription for medication. He also offers educational discussions (on a time-available basis) for students who have questions about psychotropic medications that other providers have prescribed. Barbara Jackson, M.S., L.P.C., Counselor - Barbara is a Licensed Professional Counselor who holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, in Monroe, Louisiana. Barbara has worked in higher education for more than 17 years as a clinician in a variety of university counseling centers. Prior to joining the Georgia College staff, Barbara worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor with Baylor University Counseling Center in Waco, Texas. Although she is a generalist, special clinical interests include counseling patients with issues related to depression, assertiveness, relationships, grief/loss, personal growth/improvement, developmental/transitional concerns and cultural competency. Cathy Rojas, Psy.D., Coordinator of Outreach Services- Cathy is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who joined the staff at GC in 2012 after returning to Georgia from one year of training in upstate New York. She has her Doctoral degree from Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. Cathy has been counseling college students since 2008 both in Georgia and New York. She is originally from California and earned her B.A. in psychology from UC Santa Cruz. Cathy is trained as a generalist, but has specific interest in working with students experiencing relationship problems, low self-esteem and problems related to trauma. Susan Spencer, M.Ed., L.P.C., Counselor - Susan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor, who has been with Georgia College Counseling Services since 1994. Her masters degree, from the University of Georgia, is in Student Personnel in Higher Education with an emphasis in counseling. She's also a proud Auburn alumna, having studied journalism there. She has particular interest in helping students with existential and spirituality issues, but is a generalist therapist, working with students on a wide array of issues. Dixie Turner, Ph.D., Coordinator of Clinical Services – Dixie, a Licensed Counseling Psychologist, earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology in 2011 at Louisiana Tech University and a certificate in Multicultural Counseling while interning at Michigan State University. She uses an eclectic approach when counseling and often integrates mindfulness-based techniques into her work.
